Grand Targhee Nature Center

Visit the Nature Center and chat with one of the Resort Naturalist to learn about the local wildlife, geology, ecology, and our local Ghee-cology. The resort naturalists have all the up to date information on what’s blooming and what critters have been recently seen around the resort.

Naturalist Programs

Daily Nature Walk – Starts Saturday, June 24

Explore the summit with a Resort Naturalist while taking in the scenery on a guided nature walk along the 1 mile summit trail system. This daily guided hike meets at the Summit Nature Center at 1:30pm and will continue along the sub-alpine ridge line of Fred’s Mountain with views of the Grand Teton Range and Teton Valley while you learn about the local landscape.

Hike will be on rocky uneven surfaces with some exposure.  Closed-toes shoes required.

Nature walk meets at the Summit Nature Center at 1:30pm.

Daily Nature Walk tours last around an hour and thirty minutes and is led by one of our Resort Naturalists. Nature walk is great for all ages and levels.

Guided Nature Hikes

Available Saturday & Sunday, 48 Hour Advanced Reservations Required, $35 per person ages 13 & up

Mary’s Nipple Guided Hike

Ride the scenic Dreamcatcher chairlift to the summit with our Resort Naturalist, and then hike to Mary’s saddle south of the summit of Fred’s Mountain. This 2.5-hour hike will take us to the saddle of Mary’s, along the way we’ll investigate local flora and the whitebark pine community. From Mary’s saddle we’ll enjoy the views of Teton canyon and the southern Teton Range. We’ll ether return to the summit or continue down the mountain on the Teton Vista Traverse service road.

Ages 12 and up.

Bannock Trail Guided Hike

2.5-hour hike along the 3.2-mile Bannock Trail.

Guest will see wildflowers, whitebark pine trees, and the unique geology that makes up the western slope of the Teton range. This 3.2 mile trail winds along the northern boundary of the resort, in areas not visited during winter operations. We’ll view Mount Moran and other peaks as we descend the trail, stopping to identify wildflowers, look for resident wildlife, and discuss mountain ecology.

Ages 12 and up.
