Sustainability Charter

Making Decisions for a Sustainable Future

Sustainability, defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to thrive, is a concept that has captured the attention of communities and businesses throughout the world - and with good reason.  While technological developments have helped increase life expectancy and raise the standard of living for millions of people worldwide, those very same developments have added stresses to critical social, economic, and environmental systems.

At Grand Targhee Resort, we are committed to providing the highest quality experience for our visitors.  For us, quality includes being responsible to the local and global communities of people and nature that make our resort so unique.  Just as these communities create for the resort an opportunity to thrive, Targhee recognizes the need and responsibility to play an active role in ensuring their long term health and vitality.

To that end, Grand Targhee Resort Management and Employees are committed to a process of continual learning and improvement in pursuit of fiscally attainable and truly sustainable operations.  Specifically, we are working in the following areas to balance social, economic, and environmental priorities to promote a more beautiful and healthy future for our communities.

  • Facilities Management
  • Renewable Energy
  • Intelligent Transportation
  • Preferred Purchasing
  • Waste Management
  • Sustainable Ecosystems
  • Community Engagement

Targhee’s plans for a sustainable future will ultimately depend on the success of the region and society as a whole to embrace sustainable decision-making priorities.  In addition to our improvements to onsite resort operations, Targhee is fully committed to working with local town and county planners to help build capacity for regional sustainability.

Grand Targhee Resort understands that there is no social justice without economic opportunity; no economic opportunity without a healthy environment; and neither economic opportunity nor healthy environment without a strong community fabric.  We are, therefore, committed to supporting social, economic, and environmental health to ensure the longevity of our communities.  Through imagination, experimentation, and implementation, Grand Targhee Resort hopes to be a participant in, and leader towards, the constantly moving target of regional sustainability.
