Intelligent Transportation

Grand Targhee is currently looking for ways to cut down on vehicle emissions linked to travel to and from the resort.  While the resort is only 12 miles from the town of Driggs, ID, driving a car just once a week from Driggs to the Resort and back uses approximately 104 gallons of gas, costs about $210, and emits about 2200 lbs. of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.

Grand Targhee has implemented a no idling policy in all parking areas and roads on the resort.  The resort also offers a free shuttle between the resort and Driggs for the popular music festivals that take place at Grand Targhee during the summer months.

In 2010, the resort purchased stock in the newly formed Yellowstone Regional Transportation Co-op, sponsored by the Yellowstone Business Partnership.  The resort is working with regional transportation providers to bring mass transit to Teton Valley, ID and the surrounding region.

Below are a few of the transportation-related initiatives Targhee is working on:
Employee carpool connection site on intranet.

During the 2009/10 winter season we held a Carpool for Lincoln program where we gave drivers of carpools with 3+ employees $5 Targhee Bucks and every rider was entered for a chance to win a Cat Ski Letter.

Implemented No-Idling Policy throughout Resort.

Purchased a more fuel-efficient “mule” to replace the old Ford truck for housekeeping services.

Committed to providing public transportation for 70% of employees and 30% of skiers in conjunction with the future development of the master plan.

Forward Thinking . . .

Grand Targhee is looking to retrofit a resort bus to enable it to run on waste veggie oil.
