Saturday - Sunday, Jan 19 - 27, 2013
National Safety Awareness Week is sponsored by the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) and celebrated each year to promote skier/snowboarder safety. The overall rate of reported ski injuries has declined by 50% since the early 1970's and with the collaborative efforts between ski areas across the country and the NSAA, the initiative continues to make the ski slopes safer for everyone. Grand Targhee Resort is hosting a variety of events to help promote Safety on the Slopes.
Youth Safety Awareness Poster Contest
- For the past several years the resort has encouraged local youth to participate in its Safety Poster Contest. Participation is open to both elementary and middle school children (single children or groups of 4 to 6 students). Grand Targhee was the winner of Best Design for the 2012 NSAA Poster contest!

On the weekends the plaza becomes a tent-town, with Grand Targhee Resort employees interacting with their guests. We’ll still have the Daily Drawing and Beacon Tutorials, but other departments will join the Ski Patrol. We will highlight the following:
|
|
Ski Patrol: Avalanche Awareness and Ski Area Boundary signage. GTSP will facilitate the Beacon Challenge on each Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm in the Beacon Park. Participants should register at the Ski Patrol tent prior to the event. Employees are invited to compete.

Ski School: Designated Meeting Areas and How a Lesson Can Improve Safety. Our terrific Ski Instructors will demonstrate some good ways to plan for the inevitable: becoming separated from your ski group! Do you have a plan? Also, they’ll tell you why it’s important to consider a lesson when learning to ski… and you’re always learning.

Lift Operations: Kids on Lifts. Keep those butts in the chair until it’s time to unload! Our operators will be giving out some tips for kids and their parents alike.

Retail/Rentals: Lids on Kids. Does your helmet fit? Will it do the job if it doesn’t? Talk to our retail experts, and if you need a new one… they’ll give you a discount!

|
Teton Valley Ambulance: Traumatic Brain Injuries. Paramedics from our local EMS service have a message: each time that you hurt your head, you have an increased chance of being hurt much worse. They’ll be right next to the helmets.

Every skier and rider plays an important role in their own safety and the safety of others on the mountain. Grand Targhee hopes to make everyone aware of the role each individual plays in staying safe while having a great time.
