Clinics: Saturday/Sunday
The emphasis of the festival clinics is to hire some of the best instructors around to help participants reach the next level in their Tele skiing. First time “free-heelers” to experts are encouraged to participate. Group sizes are small to maximize learning.
Backcountry Ski Day: Monday
Enjoy a backcountry ski day guided by Yostmark Backcountry Tours in the Teton region’s renowned backcountry. Yostmark Backcountry Tours has been guiding clients in the region since 1997. All guides are highly skilled at leading skiers through backcountry ski terrain and have level III avalanche certifications as well as wilderness medicine certifications. The backcountry tour is designed for intermediate & advanced skiers. Powder, powder, powder!
Telemark Race, Party, and Costume Contest: Sunday afternoon/evening Building on our 28 year Nordic Fest race, this year’s event will be a combo dual course. You can enter even if you are not signed up for the festival clinics. The 2010 theme is “The 80’s ”, so dust off your neon, one piece ski suits and grow back that mullet to enter the costume contest! After the race we’ll head to the Trap Bar for some amazing raffle prizes, live music and beer. If you are not pre-registered for the race you can sign up on the plaza on Sunday bet. 11:00-12:30.
Telemark Ski Demos: Saturday/Sunday
This is your chance to try that Tele ski or binding that you’ve been drooling over all season. Black Diamond, K2, 22 Designs, G3, and Rossignol (provided by Black Diamond, Peaked Sports & Yostmark Mountain Equipment). Clinic participants should pick up gear between 8-9 and 12-1, but can only demo gear half day at a time. Thus students who need equip the entire time should rent.
Beacon Search Demo & Contest: Saturday afternoon Join us for a beacon search demo & contest with one of Yostmark Backcountry Tours certified guides. The guide will review basic avalanche beacon use and then after a few practice sessions participants will have a chance to compete for the fastest search times. Prizes will be provided by Black Diamond & Backcountry Access, two leading innovators in the avalanche world.
2nd Annual Mini-Tele-Huck-Fest! Sunday afternoon Regardless of your ability there will be a jump to suit your needs. Come get your tele-groove on by catching some air. And it’s not just about big air…. we’ll be looking for the best crash, the least amount of air, tele style, most improved, sweet tricks and more!
Prizes: As always we will have a raffle for AMAZING prizes throughout the entire weekend but most of the shwag will be given out at the party on Sunday. Prizes include free season passes, skis, clothing, backcountry gear, and more! (Prizes provided by Grand Targhee Resort, Mountain Hardware, G3, Patagonia, Smith, Black Diamond, Atomic, K2 Telemark, Cloudveil, Lifelink, Backcountry Access, Camelbak, 22 Designs, Mountain Khaki, & Peaked Sports).
Discounted Lift Tickets: Friday-Monday
Race and clinic participants can buy lift tickets for only $40 per day during the festival….that’s almost a $30 savings per day! Even though there are no clinics on Friday you can come early to enjoy our incredible snow and prepare your Tele-legs for the clinics! (If you plan to ski on Friday prior to the official festival registration visit the Ski & Ride School to obtain your discounted tickets).
Lodging Deals: Festival participants can stay in one of Targhee’s lodging options for a discounted rate. Ski-in/ski-out rooms or off-site condos are available. Call the front desk at 1-800-TARGHEE for more info or to make a reservation. Indicate that you are participating in the festival to receive a discount.
Ski Rentals: We have a small quiver of K2 Telemark skis and Garmont boots available. Women’s boots are limited. For more selection we suggest renting from Yostmark Backcountry Tours at 208-354-2828 or Peaked Sports at 208-354-2354.
Event Registration: To register for the clinics or the “the 80’s” tele skis dual race” Telemark race & party, mail/fax the registration form with payment or call 307-353-2300 x1309 to make a phone reservation. Pre-registration is recommended. Same day clinic or race registration is available but an extra fee will be charged for sign ups after February 25th. Cancellations after February 25th are non-refundable. Check-in for clinics begins at 8:15 am in the Rendezvous North conference room.
