Grand Targhee Resort Finishes Successful 2009 Summer Season
Grand Targhee Resort recently closed for the summer after a successful season of mountain biking, events and music festivals.
While national music festivals reported double digit declines in attendance, Grand Targhee Resort saw record attendance at
Bluegrass and on the Friday evening of
Targhee Fest.
Dates for the 6th Annual Targhee Fest are confirmed for Friday, July 16, 2010 through Sunday, July 18, 2010. The 23rd Annual Targhee Bluegrass Festival will move back to the second weekend in August and be held Friday, August 13, 2010 through Sunday, August 15, 2010.
Lift-accessed downhill trails and a handful of high-caliber
mountain biking events established Grand Targhee Resort as a premier mountain biking destination in the region this summer. The new
Pierres Hole 50/100 endurance race garnered regional and national attention and drew top local, regional and national competitors. The annual 24 Hours of Targhee and the first annual
Targhee Downhill mountain bike race were also popular events.
The addition and completion of three downhill trails, in addition to the spectacular cross-country mountain biking in Rick’s Basin, drew a record number of summer biking guests to the resort this summer.
Grand Targhee Resort is exploring the addition of an expert downhill trail above the existing Sidewinder Trail, an event-caliber downhill course along Rock Garden ridge, expanding the cross country trails in Rick’s Basin and creating a cross-country trail system on Peaked Mountain for next summer. The resort will be working with the Caribou-Targhee National Forest to develop additional trails, and all new trails are subject to US Forest Service approval.
Based on record numbers of campers during the music festivals, and current travel trends, Grand Targhee Resort is also researching a potential public summer campsite on private land adjacent to the resort.
