Confirmed Artists offer an Eclectic Mix of Legends and Favorites
during the 7th Annual Targhee Music Festival at Grand Targhee Resort
The Seventh Annual Targhee Music Festival, Friday July 15 through Sunday, July 17, 2011, will welcome back crowd favorites, feature acclaimed national artists and offer new opportunities for local and regional bands in one of the most spectacular and intimate outdoor venues in the west
Michael Franti and Spearhead will take the stage again this summer after an incredibly passionate live performance to close last summer’s festival. An energetic performer, Franti’s latest album, The Sound Of Sunshine, is a self-described “musical sun shower, a bright, beautiful and often buoyant song cycle created to bring all kinds of listeners a sense of hope during rough and rainy times for so many in our world.”
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals will also return to the Targhee Music Festival after an amazing year of skyrocketing popularity. Since the launch of their latest album Grace Potter and the Nocturnals last spring, a review by Rolling Stone as one of the best new bands of 2010 and a nomination by VH1 as a “You Oughta Know” Artist on the Rise, GPN have been playing to sold-out crowds nationwide.
A fiercely honest songwriter and accomplished guitar player,
James McMurtry returns to the Tetons this summer to play for one of his most appreciative audiences.
First-time Targhee Music Festival performers
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, the
Funky Meters,
Little Feat and
Jason Spooner will add an eclectic mix of modern motown, funk, folk, blues and boogie to the weekend.
This year the opening spot for each day will be awarded to the top three bands during the Second Annual Battle of the Bands Showdown on Saturday, June 25, 2011. Local and regional bands are invited to submit videos for an online voting period starting March 25, 2011. The top five bands determined by public online voting will play the showdown during Grand Targhee Resort’s opening day of the summer season, where a second round of voting will identify the three bands that will take the stage during the 7th Annual Targhee Music Festival.
