Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival Line-Up Announced

Finger-Picking Fun Returns to the Tetons During the 24th Annual Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival at Grand Targhee Resort

(April 18, 2011 – Alta, WY) The 24th Annual Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival, Friday August 12 through Sunday, August 14, 2011, is the grandfather of bluegrass festivals in the Rocky Mountains and offers some of the top finger-picking talent on a spectacular stage in the Tetons.

“The Bluegrass Festival line up this year includes a mix of jam bands, traditional bluegrass artists and the modern sounds of progressive bluegrass,” said Andy Williams, special events manager at Grand Targhee Resort. “We have designed each day to offer a little something for everyone.”

With one or two acts still to be confirmed, the current line up includes:

FRIDAY

Donna the Buffalo http://www.donnathebuffalo.com/
Donna the Buffalo's eclectic and often socially conscious sound features a base in traditional mountain music and is infused with elements of Cajun/ zydeco, rock, folk, reggae, and country.

Infamous Stringdusters http://thestringdusters.com/
The Infamous Stringdusters manage to balance a fluency in old-timey bluegrass with indie jamgrass sensibilities. They released their first album, Fork in the Road, on Sugar Hill in early 2007, which resulted in three awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association

SATURDAY

Joy Kills Sorrow http://www.joykillssorrow.com
With its bold new brand of acoustic music, Joy Kills Sorrow is a Boston-based stringband bringing a decidedly modern sensibility to an old-world sound, channeling the prodigious talents of its individual members into elegant arrangements and well-crafted songs.

Greencards http://www.thegreencards.com
From the first notes struck together in 2003 through tours with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and up to and beyond their fourth studio album in 2009, The Greencards have won steadily escalating acclaim. Their sound defies category, balancing taste and technique, engaging lyrics and melodies and wildly creative arrangements.

Jim Lauderdale http://jimlauderdale.com/
Jim Lauderdale is a multi-talented performer and songwriter, with successes in both country and bluegrass music.

Donna the Buffalo http://www.donnathebuffalo.com/

Donna the Buffalo's eclectic and often socially conscious sound features a base in traditional mountain music and is infused with elements of Cajun/ zydeco, rock, folk, reggae, and country.

Tim O’Brien Band http://timobrien.net/
In Tim O’Brien’s music, the uncanny intersection of traditional and contemporary songwriting elements, a tireless dedication to a vast and still-expanding array of instruments, and an ongoing commitment to place himself in as many unique and challenging musical scenarios as possible has made him a key figure in today’s thriving roots music scene.

Sarah Jarosz http://sarahjarosz.com/

The best and brightest in the acoustic world move the music forward with an awareness of what came before them; that is certainly true of Sarah Jarosz. Sarah has agreed to 'lug' her four instrument cases to Teton Valley and grace us with her inspired sounds; she pays homage to her musical roots while pushing beyond those sometimes limited boundaries, taking us on a journey both dark and mystical. Sarah is a formidable talent.

Yonder Mountain String Band http://www.yondermountain.com/
Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences, Yonder Mountain String Band has pioneered a sound of their own.  With their traditional lineup of instruments, the band may look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance but they’ve created their own music that transcends any genre.

SUNDAY

Peter Rowan Band http://www.peter-rowan.com/bluegrass.html
The Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band consists of dyed-in-the wool traditional players with over 100 years of combined recording and performance experience.

The Wilders http://wvfest.com/performers/showperformer.html?artid=43
The Wilders are an internationally touring string band from Kansas City, Missouri writing and performing original songs, classic honky tonk, old time country, and fiddle tunes with engaging energy and spirit.

Railroad Earth http://www.railroadearth.com/splash/
Railroad Earth’s music is driven by the remarkable songs of front-man, Todd Sheaffer, and is delivered with seamless arrangements and superb musicianship courtesy of all six band members. They can jam with the best of them, but they’re not a jam band. They’re bluegrass influenced, but they use drums and amplifiers somewhat taboo in the bluegrass world.
