(Alta, WY – April 24, 2012) On April 17, 2012, more than 150 Grand Targhee Resort employees and their family members gathered at the Wildwood Room in Victor to celebrate the end of a successful winter season. Dinner, live music by the Miller Sisters and an awards ceremony was hosted by the Resort. Geordie Gillett, General Manager and Owner of Grand Targhee acted as the Master of Ceremony. After the ceremony, Geordie Gillett stated, “It is an honor to see so many great employees come together to celebrate the end of a season and recognize each other for a job well done.”

Nominations for Grand Targhee’s annual ‘Spirit of Targhee’ & ‘Hero of the Heart’ awards were presented and the winners were recognized. The ‘Spirit of Targhee’ is the outstanding rookie of the season. The ‘Hero of the Heart’ is an outstanding employee that has been working for the resort for two seasons or more. These programs recognize some of the resort’s outstanding employees; the employees are nominated by their peers and are voted on by the management team.

The ‘Spirit of Targhee’ nominees include; Melanie Bennett, Food & Beverage, Justin Dohms, Marketing, Greta Frohlich, Ski & Snowboard School, Mark Ortiz, Lift Operations, and Dana Ramos, Information Technology.

The 2012 ‘Spirit of Targhee’ award winner was, Justin Dohms, Marketing.

The ‘Hero of the Heart’ nominees include; Anna Moffatt, Accounting, Mike Cote, Ski & Snowboard School, Lance Falen, Housekeeping, Carol Geiger, Lift Operations, Brian Jacobson, Grooming, Janis Jurjans, Repair Shop, Pete Kelly, Base Operations, Nate Podgajny, Ski & Snowboard School, Kevin Vallade, Ski Patrol & Terrain Park, Sara Warhol, Lift Operations and Slim Weston, Activity Center, Resort Ambassador & Lifts.

The 2012 ‘Hero of the Heart’ award winner was Slim Weston, Activity Center, Resort Ambassador & Lifts.

Awards for years of service were also presented

  • 5 Years; Cindy Muraca, Ron Harbowy, Monte Schooley, Monica Hoth, Ryan Christiansen, Janet Barrett, Ron Overson, Dave Thibodeau, Rick Swanker and Andy Williams.
  • 10 years: Keith Coleman and David Eddins
  • 15 years: Mark Hanson and Carol Geiger
  • 20 years Full-time seasonal: Joe Calder, George Mosher and Jazz Russell
  • 20 years: Nacho Orduno and Javier Ortiz
  • 25 years: Karen Commins
  • 30 years full-time seasonal: Slim Weston and Gene Palmer.

Additionally, Slim Weston and Gene Palmer were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to the continued success of Grand Targhee Resort and their roles in helping build the culture and vibe that the resort is well-known for. In their honor Geordie Gillett, recognized their outstanding contributions by renaming two runs. Henceforth, the run formerly known as ‘South Street’ will now be known as ‘Slim’s Shot’ and the run formerly known as ‘Big Scout’ will now be known as ‘Palmer’s Raceway’. A formal run dedication ceremony will be held at the beginning of the 2012-2013 ski season.
