Grand Targhee Resort's Protect Our Winters Foundation Announces Grant Opportunity

(Alta, WY – February 25, 2014) Founded by the employees of Grand Targhee Resort to improve the environmental quality of the Teton Valley, the Targhee POW Foundation began partnering with international non-profit, Protect Our Winters(POW) in 2009 to bring a greater awareness to the environmental issues surrounding the snow sports community. Protect Our Winters is the environmental center point of the winter sports community, united towards a common goal of reducing climate change's effects on our sport and local mountain communities.

The Targhee POW Foundation and Protect Our Winters partnership is pleased to announce the 2014 grant-making cycle for Teton Valley. The foundation supports projects that foster responsible stewardship of natural resources, protect mountain and valley ecosystems, promote environmental education, and preserve and create opportunities for outdoor recreation. In the last six years the Foundation has awarded over $65,500 in grants for environmental projects, thanks to Targhee employee contributions and a100% match from Grand Targhee Resort. "It's a wonderful way for our employees to connect with, and support Teton Valley," states Brigid Sinram.

In 2013 Grand Targhee Resort awarded grants to:

  • Friends of Teton River
Project: Teton River Ambassadors: Education and Outreach for River Users
  • Teton Valley Trails and Pathways
Project: Jedediah Smith Wilderness Area Trail Restoration Project
  • Teton Valley Community Recycling
Project: MOVIE MADNESS: A film-based sustainability series to promote thought, problem solving, and action in our community
  • Valley Advocates for Responsible Development
Project: Sustainable Living Home Tour & Seminar

Grand Targhee Resort is a year round mountain resort situated on the western slope of the Tetons in Alta, Wyoming, accessible through Teton Valley, Idaho. Tucked among spectacular Teton views and national forest land, Grand Targhee is an intimate summer getaway for adventure-seekers, with miles of lift-accessed hiking, running and mountain biking trails, renowned music festivals and a variety of activities in a pristine high alpine environment. During the winter, the abundance of light powder snow (more than 500 inches annually) and virtual lack of lift lines creates an uncrowded skier and snowboarder paradise, continually recognized for great snow, genuine western hospitality, scenic beauty and excellent value. A leader in environmental resort practices, Grand Targhee Resort has twice been honored with the prestigious Golden Eagle Award for Environmental Excellence, most recently in 2011.  For more information, please visit our website at www.grandtarghee.com
