2014 Pierre’s Hole 50 KM, 100 KM and 100 Mile Race

(Alta, WY – June 30, 2014) Pierre’s Hole, once known for fur trade in the Northern Rockies, has always been a test of endurance, fortitude and strength. Racers from across the nation will descend upon Grand Targhee Resort on August 16, 2014 for the 6th Annual Pierre’s Hole 50/100 Mile Mountain Bike Race. This race is a grueling testament of the Teton Mountains, as well as riders’ endurance and mental strength. Over 180 racers from 20 different states showed up to race last year’s 50 km, 50 mile, or 100 mile races. The 100 mile race is part of the National Ultra Endurance series and consists of a 31-mile loop each lap features over 3,000′ of climbing on single and double-track trails. Total elevation for the 100 mile race is 9,000+’. The course consists of incredible views of the Grand Teton, mountain wild flowers, and challenging singletrack.

With the 2014 Pierre’s Hole brings a new course; the 100 mile consists of three 31-mile loops, each lap featuring approximately 3,000’ of climbing on single and double track trails and near 9,000’ of total elevation.

Course – The course will have the start/finish just off the main plaza at Grand Targhee Resort. The course will be marked with blue directional arrows and course tape, starting August 12th. The course is 31+ miles long with estimate of 3000’ of climbing per lap. First lap will ride out the Powder Reserve Traverse road from the start; remaining laps will use Andy’s Trail.

1St Lap – Ride out Powder Reserve Traverse Road, Left on to Peaked Trail, Climb Peaked trail and Ain’t Life Grand Trail then over to 38 Special Trail. Descend 38 Special Trail and continue down Mill Creek Trail, to intersection of Cold Springs trail turn right. Continue to the upper section of Ski Hill Road to Grand Targhee Resort, turn left on the road just prior to the Targhee front gate (parking lot 5) and ride Green Horn Trail to the Targhee base area. Ride the Rick’s Basin Loop counter clockwise, more lap details will be provided soon on this section of the course.

Laps 2 & 3 – Ride out Andy’s Trail and around Buffalo Soldier continue up Peaked Trail and Ain’t Life Grand trail. Descend down 38 Special Trail and continue descending Mill Creek Trail, turn right onto Cold Springs trail After Cold Springs trail turn right onto to the upper section of Ski Hill Road to Grand Targhee Resort, turn left on the road just prior to the Targhee front gate (parking lot 5) and ride Green Horn Trail to the Targhee base area. Ride the Rick’s Basin Loop counter clockwise.

August usually brings great weather and temperatures making for great race day. Profession mountain biker Amanda Carey, who raced in the 2013 Pierre’s Hole 50 mile race said, “Andy Williams puts on one of the best events in the country. I’m excited to see it keep growing.”

Camping and lodging options will be available for competitors at the resort. All resort lodging options are offered to competitors at 20% off the summer rate. Tent and RV camping is available Thursday through Sunday for $20 per camp site and include showers.
