The Cirque Series is redefining what mountain running is all about. Starting from the base of a world-famous ski resort, you’ll rally up windswept ridges & glacial cirques to towering peaks, power down a quad-burning descent, break the tape into a festival of live music, food, drink, & vendor tents. The elevation is serious but the mileage is manageable, and the race is as hardcore as you want it to be. Beat the pros down to earn legend status & cash prizes, or enjoy the views & let the challenge be its own reward.
Race starts at the base of Grand Targhee, (elevation 7860′ ft.), start your ascent near the base of Dreamcatcher chair next to Trap Bar patio. Immediately you start gaining elevation as you run up the service road via Teton Vista Traverse. The steep road treats you to views of beautiful Aspen groves and spruce trees. Not much time to rest here as you gain mid-mountain, really cool views of Mary’s & Peaked peak amphitheater. Continue up the Teton Traverse Trail by connecting to Many Saddle Hiking trail (amazing views open up into the Caribou Targhee National Forest). Once you get to the base of Mary’s Ridge, there will be an aid station here, mile 2.2 approx, now the real fun begins, you’ll head straight up Mary’s ascent, the trail consists of big boulders, single track, may require the use of your hands, yet a very passable path that has seen lots of foot traffic. Incredible views of the Grand Teton come into view once you’re about to hit the summit of Mary’s Nipple (9,920′ ft), you’ll catch your breath, run along the ridge towards the saddle between Mary’s and Peaked Mountain, this will be amazing high alpine world-class mountain running. Please be confident in your stepping.
This area will be much-welcomed ease of severe climbing you experienced pushing for Mary’s summit. You’ll begin to make a short, but technical ascent to Peaked Mountain summit, incredible views of Grand Teton, Grand Targhee resort & views of the entire valley. The ascent is a steep & technical area with the potential of snow, again, please be confident in your steps, & mindful of your fellow competitors. You’ll summit of Peaked Mountain (elevation 9,830′ ft.) truly a breathtaking summit. From here you descend Peaked Mountain, it will be a mix of rock ridge connecting to a brief service road, there will be another Aid Station, approx mile 3.8. Start to descend down to Ain’t Life Grand singletrack to brief service road connecting quickly to Peaked Trail singletrack. Towards the lower mountain, you will make one last downhill push on the Magic Carpet ride singletrack, onto Green Onion’s trail. You will finish back on the lower portion of Andy’s singletrack, then finish in the vendor village at Trap Bar plaza where you started. Please stay on marked & established trails at all times, be courteous of your day hikers out enjoying nature on the same trails. The course is 7.1 miles, featuring 2,212′ ft vert.
