Grand Targhee Resort Is Participating the World’s Largest Ski & Snowboard Lesson

(Alta, WY – Dec. 30, 2015) On January 8, 2016, resorts from across the country will be joining forces with Learn to Ski and Snowboard month to potentially set an industry and Guinness World Record for teaching people how to ski and snowboard. Grand Targhee Resort is one is up for the challenge to help set new records.

Grand Targhee Resort will offer the Start Me Up Package for $47 in conjunction with their 47th season. The lesson will start promptly at 10:00am. The Start Me Up Package includes a lesson, full-day Shoshone lift ticket, and a full-day ski or snowboard rental. This lesson is geared toward beginner skiers and snowboarders and is a great way to help grow the sport.

If you are already a skier or snowboarder, then this is your chance to “Bring a Friend” to the sport.  “January 8, is going to be one to remember and we want you to be part of this event at Grand Targhee Resort,” stated Mark Hanson, director of Ski and Snowboard School. He goes on to say, “This is a great opportunity to help grow the sport. Bring a friend who has been wanting to learn how to ski or snowboard to participate in the World’s Largest Lesson.”

Grand Targhee Resort must have a minimum of 25 participants in order for the resort’s participation to be counted in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The previous records include and are currently set at:
World’s Largest Ski Lesson (Single Venue) 594 participants
World’s Largest Ski Lesson (Multiple Venue) 594 participants
World’s Largest Snowboard Lesson (Single Venue) 500 participants
World’ Largest Snowboard Lesson (Multiple Venue) 500 participants

The World’s Largest Ski and Snowboard Lesson will include:

  1. Greeting & Introductions
  2. Introduction to equipment
  3. Getting movement started on flats. Basic walking and sliding, Side stepping Skating\pushing and gliding
  4. Introduction to wedge and or snow plough
  5. First attempts at sliding
  6. Introduction to turning
  7. Introduction to lift riding
  8. Terrain selection for beginners on first run
  9. Lesson Conclusion, Evaluation and Next Steps
